Anne Marie Mitchell is Associate Chair and Associate Professor in the Communication Department at Columbia College Chicago, where she teaches Public Relations courses. She has 20+ years experience in a variety of communication roles, including reporter, media spokesperson, crisis communications manager, corporate communications executive, executive coach, and strategic communications trainer. She is recognized as an expert on social media issues and conducts research in this area, as well as delivers workshops on social media optimization for educators and professionals.
Anne Marie has worked with Fortune 500 clients and many non-profits, including Amoco (now BP), Georgia Pacific, FedEx, FMC, Case Corporation (now CNH), Nationwide, ComEd (the Chicago-based utility of parent company Exelon), Follett, Snap-On, the U.S. Postal Service, Lawrence Hall Youth Services, the Shedd Aquarium, Sprint, Greeley and Hansen, Abbott Pharmaceuticals, and Sara Lee. She has also held senior management roles at several communications/consulting agencies, including Ketchum Public Relations, Golin and The Grossman Group.
Anne Marie is fluent in Spanish, and has lived and traveled extensively in Spain, Mexico, France, and South America. A native of Chicago, she has a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Spanish from Indiana University, and a master's degree in Spanish Literature from Loyola University.
