Biography

Clare has worked with students in the Theatre Department at Columbia for almost 30 years. Her professional career also includes her work as a founding member of The Sweat Girls (veterans of Chicago’s solo performance & storytelling scene), time spent serving as Artistic Director, Literary Manager & Ensemble Member of award-winning theatre company, Blind Parrot Productions and work as a performer with companies including Lifeline, The Organic and New Tuners’ theatres, as well as the Body Politic, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, and Blind Parrot Productions. Other acting credits include “Mrs. Hunter Is Dead”, spots for Lowes and a “New York Loves You” commercial. Clare has taught preaching through the Association of Chicago Theological Schools and Seabury Theological Seminary and works as a consultant & coach.

Instructional Areas

Special Interests: The Viewpoints, Contact Improv, the work of Augusto Boal, the work of Kristin Linklater & Patsy Rodenburg, the acting/theatremaking methodologies developed by companies such as Rash Dash, Theatre Complicite & Frantic Assembly. Integrating Voice/Movement/physically-based approaches with more classic Stanislavski-based acting approaches to give students an increasingly kinesthetic experience and approach to the work, Solo Performance (writing & performance- 25 + years experience), Exploring the Relationship with Audience, Collaborative Teaching Across Disciplines, Non-Naturalistic Theatre (served as Artistic Director, Literary Manager, Blind Parrot Productions- focus on non-naturalistic theatre & company-developed work).
