Biography

Cyndi Maxey, MA, is a part time instructor in the Theater Department teaching Speaking Out! - a communication and presentation course that serves the LAS requirement. She is a  speaker, author, coach, and owner of Cyndi Maxey LLC; she is an experienced consultant with clients nationwide. Author of six books on communication and presentations, her book Present Like a Pro with coauthor Kevin E. O'Connor published by St. Martin's Press NYC is a course resource text. Past President of National Speakers Association - Illinois Chapter and former Board member of Chicago Chapters ASTD and NAWBO, Cyndi is a strong advocate for volunteerism. She is also a member of SAG-AFTRA and has over 15 years experience as a commercial, industrial, and voice-over talent as well as considerable summer stock professional work. She holds many awards from NSA Illinois Chapter and ATD, and a Teaching Award from Loyola University's SCPS program where she was a Senior Lecturer. She holds an MA from Northwestern University in Communication Studies,with a BA in Theater Education from Illinois State.

Instructional Areas

I teach a presentation (speaking) and communicating course in the Theater Department called Speaking Out. I designed the course, coauthored one of the texts, and supply updated adjacent articles each new term.
