Biography

Private Voice Faculty - Music Department - Music Theatre

Lon’s performances have been lauded as “strong” (Chicago Tribune), “ethereal” (Opera News), “ravishing” (Chicago Free Press) as well as “the funniest of the night” (Chicago Sun Times) for his diverse work on stage and in recordings. His singing has been featured live on WFMT and Wisconsin Public Radio, as vocalist in art movies, with the Madison Bach Musicians, at Chicago Opera Theater, and as a frequent soloist at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at the University of Chicago. He premiered works by contemporary composers Michael Gustav Miller (Five Romantic Songs), Leo Schwartz (Tres Canciones), John Giles (Three Rilke Songs) and Mike Forbes (Bridge: Mini-Requiem for Countertenor and Tuba Quartet).

Dr. Ellenberger’s musicological research papers include A Shadow More Suave: Countertenor Singing and the Representation of Male (Counter)sexualities, The Countertenor: Perceptions of Emasculation, Effeminacy and the Homoerotic, and Spirit and Emotion: Forging Artistry of Seventeenth-Century German Sacred Solo Music.
