Biography

Peter Harlan has over 27 years of architectural experience in both the public and private sectors as a licensed architect and certified interior designer. Working his way up at major Chicago design firms, he established his own practice in 2003. In addition to practicing design, he has been an instructor at Columbia College, Chicago, the Art Institutes; Illinois Institute of Art, Chicago and Triton College in Riverside, IL.

ARCHITECTURAL/INTERIOR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

harlan+studio ltd – Owner/Principal (2003-2008, 2014-present)Owner of an architecture and interiors design firm focusing on educational, commercial and residential projects. Current completed projects include Ancien Cyle.Cafe, Hyde Park, FitNut Health Club, Glenview, IL. Residential projects include 105 East Bellevue, 111 East Bellevue, 113 East Bellevue and condominium residences at 800 North Michigan and 840 Lakeshore Drive. Current design projects include Inspire Girls Academy, a STEM school for girls age 5-10 and interior renovations of the Children’s Area at the Chicago Public Library West Pullman and Little Village Branches.

Jackson Harlan LLC – Owner/Principal(2008-present)Owner/architect in a full-service architecture firm specializing in public architecture, interiors, planning and LEED. Completed projects include Chicago Public Library: Albany Park and Dunning Branches, CDOT LaSalle Congress Intermodal Transfer Center, Chicago Park District; Garfield Park Conservatory/Sweet House Renovation, interior renovations for Chicago Public Schools; Wildwood Elementary School and Garvey Elementary School. Commercial interior work includes O’Malley Hanson Communications Chicago Offices and medical offices at 712 North Dearborn.

Lucian Lagrange Architects - Associate (1997-2003)Managed the small project/interiors studio for this 85-person firm. Projects included 800 North Michigan – Park Tower Residences, 840 Lakeshore Drive – Residences, NOMI Restaurant, Carlucci Restaurant and Brookdale, Glen Ellyn, a 230 unit assisted living facility.

Liederbach & Graham – Project Architect (1994-1997)Worked as an architect on high-end residential projects in the Chicago area along with the design and construction of the Johnsburg, IL public library.

Peace Corp Volunteer, Bou Ficha, Tunisia (1992-1994)Architect/Builder in a self-help housing program in Tunisia, North Africa.

Hammond, Beeby and Babka – Designer (1988-1992)Team member on the design and construction of the Harold Washington Library Center, the Skokie Public Library Addition, Skokie, IL, Cleveland Public Library Renovation and high end residential projects in Connecticut and New Mexico.
