Re'Lynn Hansen is an author, a memoir writer and essayist, as well as an associate professor of creative writing and English at Columbia College Chicago. She is named a notable essayist in Best American Essays. Her book of lyric essays To Some Women I Have Known is published by White Pine Press. She is the recipient of the Meek's Prize, Prism Prize and the New South Prose Prize in nonfiction writing. Among her publications are works that have appeared in Hawai'i Review, Slag Glass City, New Madrid, Water~Stone, and Contrary, where her essay was named one of the top ten of the decade. She is a three time nominee for the Pushcart Prize. Her chapbook, 25 Sightings of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker was published by Firewheel Press. Her novel, Take Me to the Underground, was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award. Her interest is in newer memoir forms with contemporary voice. This includes narration combined with image, or personal journey contextualized with research. She teaches a variety of courses including foundations of creative writing, literary magazine editing, portfolio, and thesis classes in nonfiction.
