Pianist–Composer Sebastian Huydts (b.1966) studied piano at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Edith Lateiner Grosz. He holds an MA in music composition from the University of Chicago where he studied composition with Shulamit Ran, Marta Ptaszynska, Howard Sandroff, Cliff Colnot and John Eaton. He can be heard in solo piano recitals and Internationally renowned artists frequently perform his works. Professor Huydts is Chair of the Music Department at Columbia College in Chicago, where he conducts the New Music Ensemble—an ensemble in which students compose and perform original orchestral music—, and teaches in the composition program. His works are published by Jeanné of Minneapolis; many of his works can be heard and seen via his website or on YouTube. In addition to his work in the Music Department, Prof. Huydts also teaches the sections Metropolitan Mobility and Sustainabilty and The People vs. Plastic—Re(f)use in the environmental justice courses, which from part of the LAS core requirements.
