News/Talk

We are committed to our community by airing programming that is responsive to the interest and needs of our listeners.  Along with an Associated Press newscasts at the top and bottom of the hour, we carry a variety of public affairs programming every Saturday morning including:

  • Dialogos (7AM-8AM): An English-language radio show by and for the Greek community. Hosted by Michael Nevradakis, the show covers music, news, and current events!
  • 51% (8AM-8:30AM): This WAMC program focuses exclusively on women’s issues, both in America and worldwide. Hosted by Allison Dunne, each weekly episode covers a different issue, from the environment to politics to the arts, from a woman’s perspective.
  • The Best of Our Knowledge (8:30AM-9AM): Another program from WAMC, this time focused solely on issues involving higher education. Since 1990, The Best of Our Knowledge has sought to explore breakthroughs in the field, each week delving into different issues affecting college campuses, new research, and expert commentary from across the globe.
  • Outerviews or Making Contact (9AM-9:30AM): During certain parts of the year, we here at WCRX are lucky enough to air interviews done by our very own radio students! Done for Radio Interviewing, the class produces the weekly show Outerviews, in which students find and interview their own engaging subjects, touching on issues and current events that are as unique as the students themselves! When the class isn’t in session we air award winning show dedicated to investigative journalism, Making Contact. Emphasizing voices and perspectives rarely heard in the mainstream, Making Contact seeks to shed a light on politics, global events, and positive ways to solve problems.
  • Edición Semanaria (9:30AM-10AM): This Spanish-language program consists of vibrant three- to five-minute features which each explore varying aspects and issues of the Latino community. From folk arts of the Americas to Native American – Latino environmental connections, Edición Semanaria touches on it all.

Music

We offer many opportunities to create your own programming and to get your music heard.  Sounds From The Underground focuses on new music from artists under the radar. Our Noon Mix and Mix@Six programs are 30 minute mixes from some of the hottest DJs playing in the clubs around Chicago.

Podcasting

Every Sunday morning from 10AM to noon, we air our weekly program Podcast Broadcast, which seeks to showcase Chicago-based podcasts. Our rotating lineup of featured shows, along with our very own intros and accompanying songs, serves to underscore the diverse and growing podcasting scene, exclusively by and for Chicagoans. Ranging from topics like talk and sports, to less common subjects like Harry Potter erotica and post-apocalyptic radio dramas, we can guarantee there’s something in Podcast Broadcast for everyone.
