Forest Foundation Dance Scholarship

for continuing undergraduate students

The Forest Foundation Dance Scholarship was established to recognize the accomplishments of full-time students majoring in Dance at Columbia.

• How to Apply

  Visit Internal Scholarships and click on APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS to access the College-Wide Undergraduate Scholarship Application. Only complete scholarship applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee. 

  Please follow all directions carefully. Students must submit the following materials to make a complete Forest Foundation Dance Scholarship application. There are two parts to the application:

  PART 1: ESSAY

  In a one- to two-page essay, please address the following:

  • List and describe the programs, projects, and happenings you have participated in at The Dance Center and/or within the Chicago dance community. This can include performing, attending workshops, teaching, etc.
  • Explain how you serve as a role model for other students.
  • What are some of your goals and dreams for your dance career?

  Your essay must be double-spaced and must include your name and MyColumbia ID number in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Please upload your response in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format. 
  
  PART 2: CREATIVE SAMPLE OF WORK

  Please select your best work to illustrate your accomplishments in your concentration of teaching, choreography, or performance. Select one of the following:

  • VIDEO: less than 4-minute excerpt of your teaching, choreography, or performance
  • WRITING SAMPLE: 150-word Dance Studies essay

  Please upload videos in .mov, .wmv, .flv, or .mp4 format, or upload a .pdf, .doc, or .docx document with an external link to your video.
  
  Please upload writing samples in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format. 
  
  Note: Upload size limit is 50MB.

• Scholarship Terms
  • Application must be submitted by March 1, 2024 (11:59 pm) for review by the committee
  • Amount of this one-semester scholarship is up to $1,500, awarded in Fall 2024
  • Scholarship is applied toward tuition only
  • Students' scholarships that are applied toward tuition may not exceed the amount of their tuition costs
  • Recipients must maintain full-time, undergraduate enrollment during the Fall 2024 semester
  • Scholarship may be used toward a study abroad program through one of Columbia's student exchange programs, excluding Summer sessions. Please note: Recipients who enroll in an independent study abroad program will forfeit their scholarship during the semester spent abroad
  • The rules and regulations governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
  • Columbia College Chicago reserves the right to withhold the scholarship in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants. The scholarship committee has the further discretion to award fewer than two scholarships in any year in which, at it sole discretion, suitable candidates are not found among applicants

  The Degree Completion Assistance Grant provides financial support to juniors and seniors who are nearing graduation, and who can demonstrate that receiving assistance from the grant will help them in achieving their academic goals.
