John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Endowed Story Workshop Scholarship

for continuing undergraduate students

The John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Endowed Story Workshop Scholarship was established to help defray the cost of tuition for talented, deserving writing students in the English and Creative Writing Department.

Deadline to Apply: February 01, 2022

Application will be available October 2021. 

The John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Endowed Story Workshop Scholarship is open to:

  • Full- or part-time, undergraduate, Fiction majors
  • Students who complete at least one semester at Columbia by the end of the Fall 2021 semester
  • Students with at least two remaining semesters of undergraduate coursework
  • International students may apply
Scholarship based on:
  • Submitted writing sample
  • Interviews may be required
Scholarship amount:
  • Previous amount was up to $2,600 (awarded half in Fall and half in Spring)

    • Endowed scholarship award amounts are subject to change.

Notification of the scholarship:

  • All applicants will be notified by email in March 2022.
