Mark Brunner Memorial Scholarship for Sound Design and Music Technology

for continuing undergraduate students

The Mark Brunner Memorial Scholarship for Sound Design and Music Technology was established to assist in defraying tuition costs for students studying within Columbia College Chicago's Audio Arts and Acoustics Department who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

• How to Apply

  Visit Internal Scholarships and click on APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS to access the Mark Brunner Memorial Scholarship for Sound Design and Music Technology. Only complete scholarship applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.

  Please follow all directions carefully. Students must submit the following materials to make a complete Mark Brunner Memorial Scholarship for Sound Design and Music Technology. There are three parts to the application:

   

  PART 1: CREATIVE SAMPLES

  Provide one or two samples of your creative work, either by uploading them to the scholarship submission platform, or by providing links to your work on online platforms.

   

  PART 2: ESSAY

  In a one- to two-page essay, describe your creative sample(s). Identify and discuss your role in the project and key challenges you faced.

  Your essay must be double-spaced and must include your name and MyColumbia ID number in the upper right-hand corner of each page. Please upload your response in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format. 

   PART 3: FAFSA SUBMISSION SUMMARY

  A current FAFSA Submission Summary must be on file. To receive a FAFSA Submission Summary, students must complete a 2024-25 financial aid application (FAFSA) by March 1, 2024.

• About Mark Brunner

  Mark Brunner served as VP of Global Corporate and Government Relations for Shure Incorporated, where he worked for more than 30 years. Mark was passionate about music and the creative and technological advancements that drove the industry forward. As the father of a 2018 Columbia graduate, Mark loved the role Columbia students play in the audio arts, sound design, and music technology. Mark passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2020. To honor the memory of their beloved friend and colleague, and to celebrate Mark’s love of Columbia, Shure Incorporated established the Mark Brunner Memorial Scholarship for Sound Design and Music Technology to support future audio innovators in their creative pursuits.

  

• Scholarship Terms
  • Application must be submitted by March 1, 2024 (11:59 pm) for review by the committee
  • Award amount varies and is awarded half in Fall and half in Spring
  • Scholarship is applied toward tuition only
  • Students' scholarships that are applied toward tuition may not exceed the amount of their tuition costs
  • Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment during the 2024-25 academic year
  • Recipients mst have submitted all outstanding documents to Columbia Central before the scholarship can be disbursed. Students can review missing documents in the MyColumbia portal under MyFinancials
  • Scholarship may be used toward a study abroad program through one of Columbia's student exchange programs, excluding Summer sessions. Please note: Recipients who enroll in an independent study abroad program will forfeit their scholarship during the semester spent abroad
  • The rules and regulations governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
  • Columbia College Chicago reserves the right to withhold the award in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants

• 12:00AM - 11:55PM 2024-25 Degree Completion Assistance Grant Application Deadline
  The Degree Completion Assistance Grant provides financial support to juniors and seniors who are nearing graduation, and who can demonstrate that receiving assistance from the grant will help them in achieving their academic goals.
