Yarka Vendrinska Photojournalism Memorial Scholarship

For continuing undergraduate students

The Yarka Vendrinska Photojournalism Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the late Yarka Vendrinska, who was an avid photographer and interested in subjects who would otherwise be overlooked. The 3-year renewable scholarship is awarded to one sophomore Photography student who demonstrates considerable achievement and financial need. Preference is given to students interested in social photography.

This scholarship application will not run for the 2024-25 academic year. 

 

The Yarka Vendrinska Photojournalism Memorial Scholarship is open to:

  • Full-time Photography majors entering their sophomore year who have completed at least 12 credit hours at Columbia by the end of the Fall 2022 semester
  • Students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Students who demonstrate financial need through a completed 2022-23 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The 2022-23 FAFSA must be submitted by October 31, 2022 for Yarka Vendrinska Photojournalism Memorial Scholarship consideration.
  • Preference is give to students interested in socially engaged photography

Scholarship based on:

  • Academic and artistic merit
  • Financial need

Renewable scholarship amount:

  • Up to $2,700 per academic year (awarded half in Fall and half in Spring)

Notification of the scholarship:

  • All applicants will be notified by email in November 2022.
