Elio Leturia Wins Lisagor Award For “Tita Turns 100”

Journalism associate professor Elio Leturia wins “Best Short Film Documentary” for Tita Turns 100 at the 40th Annual Peter Lisagor Awards. The awards, held on May 12, honor the best of Chicago journalism including newspapers, magazines, television, radio and digital media.
 
Leturia’s bilingual documentary portrays the life of Tita Lage, a centennial double-immigrant, and was directed by Leturia. Crew members include associate chair of Music and associate professor Sebastian Huydts, Columbia graduates A. J. Olstad ’15 and Brandon D. Wood ‘14, Argentinian photographer Mariano Rebasa, and former student Erik Rodríguez. The film explores topics of social class, minority status, and Argentinian, Spanish, and U.S. culture while celebrating aging and intercultural history.
