Matthew Shenoda Named Guest Editor for Academy of American Poets 2018 Poem-A-Day Project
English and Creative Writing Professor and Dean of Academic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Matthew Shenoda has been selected as one of 12 guest editors by the 2018 Academy of American Poets for their Poem-A-Day Project. Shenoda will be curating the month of May 2018, and Honorary Degree Recipient and current US Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith was chosen to curate the month of April 2018.
Shenoda and Smith join a roster of renowned poets “representing some of the most exciting and interesting voices in contemporary poetry.”
“In their work, they have been wonderful champions of others, demonstrating a generosity of spirit we admire and appreciate working with,” said Jennifer Benka, executive director of the Academy of American Poets. “We’re grateful for their joining our Poem-a-Day team and helping to showcase the work of other poets and the breadth of American poetry today,”
Poem-a-Day is the original and only daily digital poetry series featuring over 200 new, previously unpublished poems by today’s talented poets each year. On weekdays, poems are accompanied by exclusive commentary by the poets. This new direction for the series is an opportunity to involve poets with wide-ranging expertise and editorial perspectives. Anyone can sign up to receive the poems straight to their inbox.
