Several Columbia College Chicago alumni were honored both individually and collectively for their work on award-winning television shows at the Television Academy's 70th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 8 and 9 and the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 17.
Theatre alum Aidy Bryant ’09 is a regular cast member on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which won the award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. Bryant was also individually nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the show.
Cinema and Television Arts alum Annick Wolkan ’05 is an Associate Producer/Co-Producer on HBO’s Game of Thrones, which took home the award for Outstanding Drama Series, its third time winning the award. Former Cinema and Television Arts student W. Kamau Bell’s documentary series United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell, where he is both host and an executive producer, was awarded Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program for the second consecutive year.
At the 70th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which honor technical and other similar achievements, cinematographer and Cinema and Television Arts alum Christian Sprenger ’07 received the Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for A Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour) for his work on FX’s Atlanta. Sprenger was also nominated in the same category for his work on the Netflix series GLOW. Additionally, Cinema and Television Arts alum Tiffany S. Griffith ’92, who is the Dialogue Editor on the production team for Netflix’s Stranger Things, won the award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour). Griffith also won last year’s Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series award for her work on Stranger Things.
Columbia alumni did more than just win, however; Cinema and Television Arts and Semester in LA alum Blake Loughran ’18, who is a current Television Academy Production Management intern, was onstage assisting Aidy Bryant ’09 and Cinema and Television Arts alum Bob Odenkirk present the award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special.
