Chicago Collections Consortium’s new digital exhibit Place of Protest: Chicago's Legacy of Dissent, Declaration, and Disruption features contributions from the Soweto Day Walkathon in Chicago. Material from the Soweto Day Walkathon in Chicago is pulled from the Chicago Anti-Apartheid Movement Collection published by College Archives and Special Collections at Columbia College Chicago.

Place of Protest explores fifteen cases studies of protest in Chicago spanning nearly 150 years of history. The interactive digital exhibit offers navigation through a timeline of events as well as an interactive map that documents how memories of protest shape Chicagoans’ reactions to urban conflict. Contributions from Columbia’s Soweto Day 1989 Walkathon in Chicago reflects the powerful local anti-apartheid movement active in Chicago through the 1980s.

Additionally, the 618 S. Michigan Ave. campus building window holds Soweto Day 1989 Walkathon materials featured in the Place of Protest exhibit. These items range from a large banner, to posters, to t-shirts. The items in the 618 S. Michigan campus building window are on display through October 30.
