Columbia students and faculty members collaborate on "Echo Magazine 2018 / The Body Issue," which has received multiple awards.

Echo Magazine 2018 / The Body Issue won an award from Creative Quarterly’s international competition called CQ53 and an award from the Graphis New Talent international competition.

Echo Magazine is a publication created annually by Columbia Communication and Design students in the class College Magazine Workshop. Design students Cecsily Bianchi, Sarah Graf, Zoe Haworth, Ben Hullinger, Jason Min, Neriza Miranda, Ana Ojeda, Nicholas Rissmeyer, Sarah Trobee, and Denise Wong Yu helped in the creation of this year’s issue. Along with students, Design Assistant Professor Guy Villa Jr. and Communication Associate Professor Sharon Bloyd-Peshkin oversaw and facilitated the production of Echo Magazine 2018 / The Body Issue. Villa notes that in the course, students “work together to create a high end, four-color magazine and a companion website in a single semester. Students redesign the publication, write and edit all stories, create or assign all photos and illustrations, design the pages, copy edit, fact check and proofread all pages, and send the magazine to a printer.”

The Creative Quarterly Award granted Echo three article spreads. The work will be showcased online and published in the CQ Journal.

The Echo Graphic Design Team won a Silver Award from the Graphis New Talent international competition, which will showcase and archive the work permanently on the Graphis website. Additionally, the work will be published in the Graphis New Talent 2019 hardcover annual.
