Alumni and faculty members in Theatre, Dance, and Music departments nominated for 2020 Joseph Jefferson Awards

Columbia College Chicago alumni and faculty members have been nominated for this year’s Jeff Awards in several categories spanning Theatre, Dance, and Music departments. The Jeff Award is Chicago’s top award for theatre and the Equity Jeff Awards recognize individuals and ensembles in Chicago’s Equity theatre.

Thirteen Columbia faculty members and alumni were nominated for this year’s Equity Jeff Awards for demonstrating excellence during the 2019-20 theatre season. The Columbia nominees work in the areas of performance, direction, musical direction, and design.

The following faculty members and alumni have been nominated for Equity Jeff Awards:

Faculty:

  • Celeste Williams, Theatre, nominated for Performer in a Supporting Role – Play for their role in The First Deep Breath
  • Heather Gilbert, Theatre, nominated for Lighting Design – Large for Bug
  • Jermaine Hill, Theatre, nominated for Musical Direction for The Color Purple and for Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies
  • Andra Velis Simon, Theatre, nominated for Musical Direction for Always…Patsy Cline
  • Mike Tutaj, Theatre, nominated for Projection Design for Oslo and for The Secret of My Success
  • Rachel Levy, Theatre, nominated for Lighting Design – Midsize for The Gulf

Alumni:

  • Harmony France, Theatre, nominated for Performer in a Review for their role in Always…Patsy Cline
  • C. Smith ’86, Theatre, nominated for Performer in a Supporting Role – Play for their role in King Hedley II
  • David Cromer HDR ’17, Theatre, nominated for Director of a Play – Large for Bug
  • Jeffrey Levin ’10, Music, nominated for Sound Design – Large and for Original Music in a Play for Kill Move Paradise, and nominated for Sound Design – Midsize for Grey House
  • Jesse Klug ’05, Theatre, nominated for Lighting Design – Large for Beauty and the Beast
  • Erin Kilmurray ’08, Dance, nominated for Artistic Specialization for Movement Design in Oedipus Rex
  • Patrick Mulvay, Music, nominated for Performer in a Principal Role – Play for their role in Midsummer

In addition to individual nominations, Columbia faculty and alumni were also cast members in shows nominated in ensemble categories.

The 52nd Annual Equity Jeff Awards will be presented online on Monday, November 9, at 7 p.m.
