Columbia College Chicago is hosting the 20th annual Self Employment in the Arts Conference, February 22-23, 2020 at its building located at 618 S. Michigan. Registration for the two-day gathering is free to Columbia College Chicago faculty, staff, and students. The meeting expects to draw more than 400 attendees from 30 different educational institutions, as well as artists from across the region.

The SEA conference focuses on the business side of the creative industries and helps emerging and practicing visual, performing, literary, and media artists gain the resources and connections they need to be successful self-employed artists.

This year is not the first time the SEA has convened its meeting at Columbia College Chicago. Back in 2000, the conference met at Columbia and this year it returns to celebrate its two-decades-long run. Melissa Hennessy, Assistant Director of Industry Relations at Columbia College Chicago considers the conference’s return an honor for Columbia and an opportunity for its students, faculty, and staff. “We are delighted the conference organizers have elected to return to Columbia to celebrate its twenty-year anniversary,” said Hennessy. “Many of our faculty will be presenting along with veteran artists and creative industry experts from around the country.”

Activities during the two-day program include artist-led workshops, panel and round table discussions, industry pitch competitions, one-on-one mentoring, and networking opportunities.
