Columbia College Chicago’s Theatre Department Invites You to Participate in the Live-Streamed Interactive Performance of THE RACE 2020

The Race 2020
Columbia’s Theatre Department begins its performance season with a free play promoting active conversation on leadership and politics.

Columbia College Chicago announces its initial performance of the season, THE RACE 2020, an interactive live-streamed performance written by Michael Rohd and directed by Michael Brown that combines spectacle and conversation to interrogate the state of our democracy.

THE RACE was created by Sojourn Theatre, a theatre company devoted to producing works devised around social justice issues, between 2006 and 2008. Georgetown University invited Sojourn Theatre to create the play as a way to provide space for civic inquiry and dialogue regarding the 2008 presidential election.

The show currently blends live and recorded performance—a global Skype chorus and dance and karaoke with audience interaction in the form of call and response and question and answer. THE RACE 2020 is an interactive, choreographed and at times improvised exploration of what America demands from a leader today and investigates theatre’s place in the political landscape during a time of national division and increased partisanship. THE RACE 2020 will be presented across the country this year as part of a festival of performances leading to the presidential election.

The live-streamed event will take place at select times from Wednesday, October 21, 2020 to Saturday, October 24, 2020 and is free and open to the public. For tickets and addition information, click here.
