Columbia Faculty Recognized with Program Grants from City of Chicago

Congratulations to the Columbia College Chicago faculty members who were awarded 2020 Individual Artists Program grants and an Esteemed Artist Award from Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) have announced the recipients of this year’s artist grants and awards, including several members of the Columbia College Chicago community.

Cinema and Television Arts Associate Professor Ruth Leitman was one of 13 Chicago-based artists who were recognized with a 2020 Esteemed Artist Award.

Also from the Cinema and Television Arts department, Assistant Professors Missy Hernandez, Carolina Posse, and Brent Kado were all recipients of the 2020 Individual Artists Program Project Grant, which were awarded to 158 resident Chicago artists across all artistic disciplines.

Fo Wilson, Associate Professor and Director of Academic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, was also awarded with the grant.

This year, Mayor Lightfoot increased the City of Chicago’s 2020 funding for cultural grants by $1 million, fulfilling a commitment to prioritize equitable grantmaking and microfinancing to individual artists, organizations and arts corridors throughout Chicago — particularly in communities of need.

Each year, the Individual Artists Program supports Chicago's practicing artists in creating work that develops their craft and elevates their careers while adding to the cultural vitality of the city of Chicago. 

The DCASE Individual Artists Program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
