Chloe Herring MFA ’21 Awarded Individual Artists Program Grant for Thesis Film Project

Today, Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), Chicago Park District, and other City of Chicago departments announced the 2021 recipients of the annual Individual Artists Program. This year’s announcement was combined the new “Arts 77” announcement. Arts 77 is a citywide arts recovery and reopening plan for all of Chicago’s 77 community areas.

The Individual Artists Program grants support Chicago's practicing artists in creating work that develops their craft and elevates their careers while adding to the cultural vitality of the city of Chicago. This year, 162 project-based grants between $800 to $5,000 will be awarded to resident Chicago artists over the age of 18 across all artistic disciplines including film & media arts, literary arts, performing arts (theatre/dance), music and visual arts/design.

Chloe Herring MFA ’21 has been awarded an Individual Artists Program grant for her thesis film project, Room Rodeo. Cinema and Television Producing MFA program students Chloe Herring and Lola Mosanya are co-producing the film and Daniel Kayamba, a film and television BA student, is directing the film.

“I am so grateful to the City of Chicago, DCASE and the Individual Artist Program for their support of Room Rodeo. This grant is a big deal for the project and for myself as a young filmmaker. I am so excited to leverage this opportunity to showcase Chicago-based artists and our art,” said Herring.

Room Rodeo is a stylized drama-documentary hybrid about a wide-eyed boy determined to prove his great grandfather is a legendary Black cowboy.
