Columbia College Chicago Team Headed to International Semi-Finals for L'Oreal Brandstorm 2021

A team comprised of three Columbia College Chicago students won one of the top two coveted spots at the United States finals for this year's Brandstorm and will be advancing to the international semi-finals.

Columbia College Chicago is pleased to announce that "Team Bond," made up of Advertising major Sunjoy Walls, Fashion major Arion Wheeler, and Cinema and Television Arts major Emerson Cole is one of two student teams that won the United States finals in this year's Brandstorm for their concept leveraging Kiehl's products. The team's concept revolves around repositioning skincare for father figures and teen boys. It is an omnichannel retail approach involving carefully researched consumer insights, cultural trends analysis, strategic ideation, micro-targeting, creative concepting across a variety of digital platforms including social, paid ads, paid social, website, blog, in-store, and online retail sales, and live experiential events -- as well as detailed financial analysis regarding both costs and projected net profits. The team now will be heading to the international semi-finals.

Forty-thousand students from 65 countries registered for this first-time-ever all-digital global competition including schools such as Harvard, Princeton, Howard, NYU, Stanford, University of Michigan, and more. This team grew out of a one-hour credit class taught by Dana Connell, Associate Chair of the Department of Fashion Studies in the School of Fine and Performing Arts at Columbia College Chicago and Peg Murphy, Associate Chair and Associate Professor of Communication. 

Next, students assemble another pitch for the international semi-finals involving more than 65 countries worldwide. This round will be judged by leading L’Oréal global executives, employees, and will include a public vote, which will take place May 3-7. The top six international finalist teams move on to compete at the L’Oréal Brandstorm 2021 International Finals, vying for summer internship positions at the L’Oréal Paris headquarters to bring their concept to life.
