Student Film Advances to Penultimate Round of the Student Academy Awards

71 Seconds, directed by Jazmin Bryant '20, is one of 92 films to advance this year.

Columbia College is pleased to announce that 71 Seconds, a short film by Jazmin Bryant '20, has advanced to the semi-final round of the 48th annual Student Academy Awards. This advancement means that 71 Seconds is roughly in the top 7% of all films submitted. 

The short film 71 Seconds mirrors the final moments in the life of Treyvon Martin and imagines the 71 seconds unaccounted for in the official report of his murder. In the film, an ordinary day takes a tragic turn in an all too common way, reminding everyone that Black Lives Matter.

As Bryant told VoyageLA in 2020, "My favorite kind of storytelling reflects topics such as ethics, race and morality to spread awareness and create conversation. Ultimately, I strive to use my art form as an opportunity to inform, connect and stand out."
