Columbia College Chicago is expanding access to higher education in creative disciplines grounded in liberal arts, technology, media, and business by launching two initiatives in the Summer and Fall of 2026.

The Columbia Direct Admit Program and the Summer Bridge Program for Creative Futures are designed to make a high-quality creative education more affordable and attainable for students.

“These initiatives are about opening doors and removing barriers,” said Dr. Shantay N. Bolton, President and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia College Chicago.  “Columbia has always been a place where creativity meets opportunity, and we’re expanding that promise. Every talented student—no matter their zip code or financial circumstance—deserves the chance to imagine, create, and thrive here.”

Columbia Direct Admit Program: Affordable, Accessible, Achievable

The new Columbia Direct Admit Program guarantees admission and significant financial support to eligible Illinois high school graduates, particularly those who are Pell-eligible and qualify for the Illinois MAP Grant. Students from Chicago Public Schools (CPS), suburban districts, and mission-aligned charter schools can receive $15,000–$20,000 in renewable institutional scholarships each year, creating a near debt-free path to a creative degree.

The program simplifies admissions with waived application fees, priority advising, and dedicated support throughout the process. Students living off campus also receive financial aid to ensure affordability.

“The Columbia Direct Admit Program provides clear, accessible pathways to higher education for talented Illinois students,” said Dr. Emmanuel Lalande, Senior Vice President for Enrollment Strategy and Student Success at Columbia. “We’re removing barriers so that cost isn’t what stands between students and their creative futures.”

Summer Bridge Program for Creative Futures

For admitted students who need additional preparation, Columbia is reintroducing the Summer Bridge Program for Creative Futures, 6-week experience for those with GPAs between 2.25 and 2.5. Launching in Summer 2026, the program helps students build academic confidence, strengthen writing and math skills, and immerse themselves in Columbia’s creative culture.

Participants will connect with peer mentors, receive academic coaching, and explore Chicago’s arts scene through workshops and cultural excursions.

“The Summer Bridge program gives students the academic and social tools they need to succeed and grow within our creative community,” Suzanne McBride, Interim Senior Vice President and Provost at Columbia.
More details about the Summer Bridge Program for Creative Futures program will be available beginning January 2026.

Together, these initiatives underscore Columbia College Chicago’s mission to provide access to creative education and to nurture the next generation of storytellers, artists, and innovators.
