MoCP at Fifty: Collecting Through the Decades

Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Museum of Contemporary Photography presents a milestone exhibition examining how its collection has evolved since the museum’s founding. Featuring rarely exhibited and newly acquired works from across five decades, the exhibition traces shifting artistic, cultural, and institutional values—highlighting changes in representation, expanding definitions of photography, and the role museums play in shaping the photographic canon.

“Lamination Machine” is a multimedia exhibition exploring shifting consumer relationships and humanistic approaches to the value of everyday objects. Featuring work across a range of mediums, the show examines how lamination—both as a material process and metaphor—reveals what we preserve, discard, or overlook in daily life. Participating artists include Kristian Alvarado, Carley Brown, Jenna Davis, Lawrence Howell Hight-Goggin, Isabella Miller, Eliana Pinkert, Christian Romero, Nat Slavin, Regina Telinski, and Isa Woodard.

Presented by Columbia College Chicago’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship, this exhibition features the bold and creative works of the 2025 Weisman Award recipients, including Emma Bolas ’25, Olivia Byam ’25, William Duwe ’25, Ayu Eini, Dominic Frugoli, Thein Hoang Bui, Samuel Kirkwood Jr., Cam Mather ’25, Carmen Ordoñez, Hossam Moussa, Haley Patton, Ravia Rasool, Fatemeh Rezaeipour, Aidan Vogel, Ziyi Yuan, Linhan Zhang, and Jiamin Zhao ’25.

This weekly concert series features solo and duo guitar performances by students from the School of Audio and Music, offering a midday opportunity to experience a range of styles and approaches in an intimate performance setting.

Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust makes their Chicago debut with “About Ram,” an experimental theatrical work drawing from Bhavbhuti’s “Ramayana.” Blending animation, digitally projected dance, masks, and puppetry, the piece explores Hindu principles such as dharma. Presented in partnership with the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival.
