How Would You Define Chicago Hip-Hop?

With the launch of Columbia’s Hip-Hop Studies minor, members of Columbia and the Hip-Hop community share their perspectives on what makes Chicago Hip-Hop unique.

In Fall 2017, Columbia College Chicago launched a minor in Hip-Hop Studies. Chicago is one of the major centers of American Hip-Hop culture, with artists like Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Rhymefest drawing the national spotlight to Chicago. We asked experts and practitioners from Columbia and the local Hip-Hop community to help define Chicago Hip-Hop.
