Advance Screening: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Biopic “On the Basis of Sex” 

Discussion and Q&A to follow with screenwriter Daniel Stiepelman and executive producer Karen Loop on Tuesday, November 27.

Former faculty member Daniel Stiepelman’s screenplay for the feature film, On the Basis of Sex, was inspired by his aunt, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. But Stiepelman credits his time at Columbia College Chicago and his collaboration with Columbia colleague Karen Loop, for the reason his screenplay is now a movie receiving critical acclaim and Oscar buzz.
Students, faculty, staff, and alumni will have the chance to screen the fillm followed by a a Q&A discussion with Stiepelman and Loop, hosted by Cinema and Television Arts Assistant Professor Susan Kerns.
The film tells the inspiring and spirited true story of young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg (played by Felicity Jones) as she teams with her husband to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination. The feature’s theatrical release coincides with Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court.
