Award-winning guitarist Cutbero Cibrián Tapia will join the Music Department for a night of music April 11.

The Music Department will host classical guitarist Cutberto Cibrián Tapia April 11 for a night of music.

Winner of the 2014 Mexico Contest for Harmony, Tapia is a performer and lecturer who has performed extensively throughout Mexico, as well as internationally. He is the Guitar Chair at Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo in Morelia, where he is also a founding member of the Jazz Quartet of the UMSNH Folk Arts Faculty. His trio, Los Amantes del Bolero, was founded with the objective of conserving and promoting the traditional Mexican Bolero style of music and dance. He is the founder and director of the International Classical Guitar Festival of the Ciénega de Chapala.

Tapia’s first classical guitar album with the Trio de Guitarras de México, Recital, was released in 2009. 2012 marked the release of Llenaste tu mi vida, which was recorded with the trio Los Tres del Bolero. In 2015, he debuted his first solo album, Concierto de guitarra clásica.
