Russell Gunn Residency Concerts at the Jazz Showcase

Music Department Artist-in-Residence Russell Gunn will play a weekend of shows with the Columbia College Jazz Ensemble.

Grammy-nominated trumpeter and Music Department Artist-in-Residence Russell Gunn, will be joined by the Columbia College Jazz Ensemble for a weekend of shows at the historic jazz club The Jazz Showcase. Tickets are $5 for students; $10 for faculty, staff, and family of performers; and $20 for General Admission.

Chicago-born Gunn grew up playing trumpet and has worked professionally in jazz since 1995 — though his first love was rap and hip-hop, taking inspiration from legendary hip-hop artist LL Cool J. He first gained attention through his work on Wynton Marsalis’ Blood on the Fields, and has worked with musicians like CeeLo Green, D’Angelo, Ne-Yo, and Maxwell.

His first release with Atlantic, Ethnomusicology, Vol. 1, was nominated for a Grammy Award. He has since released six volumes of Ethnomusicology and many other albums, including the Miles Davis tribute album Russell Gunn Plays Miles and, most recently, the collaboration album Russell Gunn & Elektrik Butterfly: Elektrik Funeral.
