Biography

Kent Anderson is a Adjunct Faculty member of the Columbia College Business & Entrepreneurship Department where he instructs Business of Music, Applied Marketing: Music Business and Digital Business Development. A musician, consultant, lecturer and music business executive, he has held key positions at Virgin Records, GRP, N2K and as President of A440 Music Group.

During his tenure at GRP the company was named the #1 Jazz Label in the world for five consecutive years and received more than 30 Grammy nominations. While at N2K, Mr. Anderson’s sales and marketing efforts were recognized with Billboard magazine naming the label the #1 Independent Jazz Label of the Year. In conjunction with the Music Biz Association, Anderson has produced four consecutive #1 Billboard Jazz & Blues chart compilation recordings. In total he has Produced in twenty(+) sound recordings, including a Grammy nomination and Best 5.1 Surround Sound Mix award. In 2005, Anderson founded C Sharp Consulting, Ltd. and has Managed and Produced recordings from artists as diverse as: Alice Peacock, New Soul Cowboys, Corey Wilkes, and Carrie McDowell.

He grew up in Des Moines, possesses a Bachelor or Arts Degree from the University of Northern Iowa with a Performance Degree in Double Bass, (with additional studies at the University of Iowa). Anderson is a voting member of The Recording Academy [Grammys] and is an Eagle Boy Scout. He resides in Chicago and fronts his own jazz quartet – The Kent Anderson Collective.

Creative Practice and Research Interests

Regularly attend the Music Business Association Conventions and MIDEM, (Cannes, France). A student of classical and jazz music who continues to study, research and practice daily.
