Fashion Studies student Robert Davison Long has been named a top finalist for the prestigious NRF Foundation Scholarship.

Columbia College Chicago is proud to announce current Fashion Studies student Robert Davison Long is one of five top finalists for the prestigious NRF Foundation  Next Generation Scholarship. He is the second Columbia College Chicago student to earn this distinction in the past two consecutive award years. In January 2021, Amaiya Sims won the grand prize of $25K.

Davison Long was selected from 10 semifinalists based on interviews with staff from the National Retail Federation and a rigorous case study, researching and building comprehensive plans detailing go-to-market strategies for a new Meijer Brand Foods program.

Dana Connell, associate professor for Fashion Studies, was Davison Long’s advisor for the NRF competition. She emailed, texted, and Zoomed weekly with him as he compiled a case for Meijer to add cocktail flavored sparkling water to their product assortment.

“His idea, honestly, was brilliant, and backed by an overwhelming amount of research supporting a non-alcoholic lifestyle that intersected with sparkling water,” said Professor Connell.  “This scholarship saw Robert grow in his research skills and financial acumen which complimented his keen sense of the customer. Robert has a bright future wherever his career lands and I look forward to his mentorship of future CCC students.”

The top recipient of this award will receive a $25,000 tuition scholarship and the four other finalists will each receive a $10,000 tuition scholarship during NRF Foundation Honor’s ceremony early next year.
