University of Michigan Press announces new edition of work from Creative Writing alum

Bath Massacre: America’s First School Bombing, by Arnie Bernstein MA '94, has been updated and expanded for publication in this new edition.

Nonfiction work from Columbia College Chicago Creative Writing alum, Arnie Bernstein MA '94, has been republished by the University of Michigan Press.

The publisher has announced an updated and expanded edition of his book, Bath Massacre: America’s First School Bombing, a historical look at the incident that took place in the small town of Bath, Michigan 95 years ago.

The new edition of this Michigan Notable Book includes a new introduction and stories from interviews with two additional survivors, Myrna (Gates) Coulter and Ralph Witchell, which took place after the first edition was published in 2009.

A native of Chicago, Arnie Bernstein is the author of The Hoofs and Guns of the Storm: Chicago’s Civil War Connections and Hollywood on Lake Michigan: 100 Years of Chicago and the Movies. He is the winner of a Puffin Foundation grant and Midwest Regional History Publishing honors.
