Columbia Journalism Professor to Discuss Documentary with Pulitzer Prize Winner in D.C.
Columbia Journalism Professor Jackie Spinner will discuss her short documentary Morocco, Morocco with Pulitzer Prize winner David E. Hoffman, a contributing editor at The Washington Post, on February 28 at the Doyle-Forman Theater in Washington D.C. The film was funded in part by Columbia College Chicago. The event is sponsored by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.
Columbia College Chicago Alum and Adjunct Professor Hakim Belabbes MFA ‘92, served as a consulting producer, along with Michael Rabiger, a chair emeritus of CTVA and the namesake of Columbia’s Documentary Center.
Morocco, Morocco, which premiered on Chicago’s PBS station WTTW this past spring, unravels the mystery of how the small town of Morocco, Indiana, got its name. Over the course of the documentary Spinner and her film crew trace the story of an 1851 traveler’s red leather boots—featured prominently on the town’s welcome sign—back to the kingdom of Morocco.
