Columbia Events Management course to host annual hip-hop event, The Fresh Connect, at the Conaway Center

Columbia College Chicago’s Events Management course will host their annual hip-hop event, The Fresh Connect, in the Conaway Center (1104 S Wabash, 1st floor) on December 10th, 2021. Sponsored by the College’s Business and Entrepreneurship Department, the event will last from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM and will be open to all Columbia College Chicago students. Features of the event include musical performances and artistic works showcasing the growth of hip-hop in Chicago throughout the decades.

The evening will include a number of events encompassing music, dance, art, and fashion. Musical acts will alternate between DJs and main stage performers. Three DJs will represent three unique eras of hip hop: the 80s-90s, the 00s, and the 10-20s. DJs include DJ J Smooth, DJ Tacco, and DJ Drip. Main stage performers include the Renegades Hip-Hop dance team and AEMMP artists. Columbia College Chicago student and member of The Fresh Connect team, T Star Verse, will share her talents as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Picture Perfect, the College’s student fashion organization, will model street wear representative of the Chicago hip hop community. The event will also include a rap battle featuring artists such as Jay Post and Jimmi Gordon of OutPastMidnight, Avery Sunshine, Toiné Houston, and Charles Fox.

Throughout the event, vendors with connections to the Chicago hip-hop community will be selling items. These include crystals linking to the spirit of hip-hop, airbrushed tshirts done in a graffiti style, and hip-hop street wear.

The evening will also feature the presentation of The Fresh Connect Scholarship. This brand-new award will be presented as a gift to the Hip-Hop Studies Department and will be awarded to a student in the hip hop studies minor program.

For those that are not Columbia College Chicago students or for students that do not wish to attend the event in-person, the entire evening will be livestreamed through The Fresh Connect’s website: cccthefreshconnect.squarespace.com. The Conaway Center features two cameras, each with a 60-degree swivel, to ensure every inch of the event is captured on camera for those choosing to watch from home.
