Brian Torrey Scott
First Year Writing
Brian Torrey Scott is a playwright, director and filmmaker. He received an MFA in writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he now also teaches in liberal arts and creative writing.
He was awarded the first PAC/edge Commission Award in 2004, with which he created the award-winning Air Tact Light. A 2005 CAAP Grant funded Discarded Landscape, which he directed for the group Weather Talking. Other recent works include We Were the World, Year, Left-Handed Saw Right-Handed (2006 Links Hall residency with Mary Walling Blackburn), and Detail From the Mountain Side. He has also created work for The Curious Theater Branch (Histrionica with Banjo), The Neo-Futurists (Alice) and Lucky Pierre (32 Key Concepts). His scripts have been produced in Chicago, New York City and Dallas. His writing has appeared in Tarpaulin Sky and Telophase, and the songs he wrote in collaboration with Azita Youssefi were released by Drag City Records in 2006
