Located in the heart of Chicago, Columbia College Chicago is a unique and vibrant place to learn. With over 120 years teaching creative students, Columbia graduates are prepared for exciting careers in the visual, performing, media and communication arts. Columbia offers Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees as well as Certificate programs.
The Photography Department teaches the fundamental technical and conceptual skills that students need to develop their own creative techniques and professional aesthetics. Students get hands-on experience working with images in a range of styles (photojournalism, studio, commercial, documentary, and fine art) while honing their mastery of both traditional and digital photography formats. Students learn in state of the art facilities – the most extensive and advanced in the Midwest, with a digital imaging lab, large format cameras and printers, color and black-and-white darkrooms and studios with professional lighting. The Undergraduate photography degree is rooted in a core foundational curriculum which encompasses a range of photographic practices and fundamentals from which students can develop their own unique style and voice.
