General Manager of the Columbia Chronicle Chris Richert was elected president of College Media Business and Advertising Managers (CMBAM) on March 31, 2017 at the annual College Media Convention in Fort Worth, Texas.

During his two-year term, Richert plans on working with CMBAM’s board and membership to encourage innovation and assist college media organizations in successfully meeting their goals. The organization is run by an all-volunteer board of students and advisers from member schools who serve staggered terms. People from more than 75 college media groups have served on CMBAM’s Board during the organization’s 45-year-long history. Chris has also served in former years as, VP of Communication, VP of Membership, VP of Convention Planning-Elect, and VP of Convention Planning.

Since Richert began at the Columbia Chronicle in 2005, he has seen the student newspaper grow to have more than 30 student workers. He has also been instrumental in growing the paper's readership and distribution: the Chronicle now delivers to 450 locations throughout Chicago and has more than 30 indoor stands.

“College media is still the heart of all university campuses and we need to keep all of our media entities strong,” says Richert. “We need to continue to serve our community by providing an environment for students to continue to practice their craft, to innovate, and learn.”

Richert will work with the CMBAM board to increase their media membership so that they can reach more college media students across the country and internationally. “We will offer more learning opportunities for student staff to learn additional skills and apply it to their newsroom environment and provide a place for student discourse as they learn and communicate new ideas to their peers in other newsrooms,” says Richert.
