Biography

Diana Gorman Jamrozik began working at Columbia in the Fall of 1998. She holds an MA (1998) in Interpretation from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., an MA (2013) in Linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University, and a BA in History/Russian Area Studies from University of Illinois (1992). She holds the Certificate of Interpretation (CI), the Certificate of Transliteration (CT), and the Oral Transliteration Certificate (OTC) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.Gorman Jamrozik has taught all levels of interpreting courses offered in the Department of ASL-English Interpretation, including “Practicum 1,” “Practicum 2,” “Introduction to Interpreting,” “Linguistics of ASL,” and “Theory of Interpreting,” as well as her specialty course, “Language and Translation,” which fuses sociolinguistics and translation theories.In addition to numerous local presentations, she has presented twice at the biannual conference for the National Registry of Interpreters. She has also presented at the National Conference of Interpreter Trainers conventions, and at the Deaf Studies Today! conference. Her presentations included addressing the role of context in fingerspelling recognition skills and sight translation. Her current research focuses on turn-taking in ASL, language identity issues, and theories of translation.
