Chicago Fashion Foundation/Dorothy Bartman Allahverdian Scholarship

for continuing undergraduate students

The Chicago Fashion Foundation/Dorothy Bartman Allahverdian Scholarship was established to assist students with the tuition costs associated with participating in faculty-led experiences through the Fashion Studies Department.

• About Chicago Fashion Foundation / Dorothy Bartman Allahverdian Scholarship

  The Chicago Fashion Foundation was founded by Lana and Rob Bramlette. Lana Bramlette, ’97, founder of Lana Jewelry, turned her Columbia education and passion for fine jewelry into a powerhouse brand. When asked why she chose Columbia to establish this scholarship, Lana said, “I became successful because of the education I received here.   Dorothy Bartman Allahverdian, designer and Instructor of Fashion Design for 18 years at the International Academy of Design and Technology, formerly employed by Mercy Hospital, was a generous benefactor to the Chicago Fashion Foundation who passed away from cancer in 2007.  Dorothy received an award for "Distinguished Educator of the Year" in 2006 and received an award from Marshall Field’s for "Distinction in Design" in 2002.

• Award Terms
  • Amount of this one-semester scholarship ranges $500-$2,500. The scholarship amount awarded is at the sole discretion of the Fashion Studies Department and cannot be appealed by a recipient.
  • Scholarship is applied toward tuition only.
  • Although recipients will be selected based on their plans to enroll in one of the courses mentioned above, award funds will not be disbursed if the recipient does not register for the course or ultimately does not attend the course.
  • Recipients of the J-term award must register for a minimum of 6 credit hours for the Spring semester. This may include the credit hours for the faculty-led course (J-term is considered part of Spring term).
  • Recipients of the Summer award must register for a minimum of 3 credit hours for the Summer semester. This may include the credit hours for the faculty-led course.
  • For both domestic and international travel associated with these faculty-led experiences, students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper credentials for travel.
  • Students are responsible for following all policies and procedures communicated by the academic department and other Columbia personnel related to participating in a faculty-led experience.
  • The total amount that a student receives in Columbia scholarships, including the Chicago Fashion Foundation/Dorothy Bartman Allahverdian Scholarship, cannot exceed the tuition charged for the term. Therefore, changes to enrollment may result in a reduction of the scholarship amount.
  • The rules and regulations governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
  • Columbia College Chicago reserves the right to withhold the scholarship in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants

  The Degree Completion Assistance Grant provides financial support to juniors and seniors who are nearing graduation, and who can demonstrate that receiving assistance from the grant will help them in achieving their academic goals.
