Our Mission

The mission of the Columbia College Chicago Academic Center for Tutoring is to support, encourage, and empower students to become independent, self-advocating, and resourceful learners.

The Columbia College Chicago Academic Center for Tutoring (ACT) provides students from all disciplines, backgrounds, and levels of expertise the opportunity to develop diverse skills and strategies that will enhance their academic success within a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Tutoring interactions span a variety of formats and learning environments to meet individual student’s academic demands. Tutors work collaboratively with students to produce knowledge through high-quality individual and group student-centered learning.

Students should come fully prepared for their sessions with assignment prompts, texts, any instructor feedback they might have, and the homework itself.

As a learning culture and community of practice, the ACT helps both student users and peer tutors foster self-efficacy, autonomy, and positive habits of mind using transformational strategies and resources.
