“Shi Ri Fan Gu” (“Sojourn to Shangri-La”), a film by Yihan Lin MFA ’21, makes its international debut in February.

Congratulations to Yihan Lin MFA ’21 whose new short “Shi Ri Fang Gu” (“Sojourn to Shangri-La”) has been selected for inclusion in Berlinale Shorts, part of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival.

Written and directed by Lin, “Shi Ri Fang Gu” tells the story of a beach-bound fashion commercial crew that discovers that the installation built in advance has vanished due to the rising tide. Through an effort of an art assistant, a drone flies out to search for the installation over the sea, taking the assistant into the unknown.

The festival, an 11-day event in Berlin, is one of the largest public film festivals in the world, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the globe each year.

Every year, around 200 films of all genres, lengths, and formats are shown in the various sections and special presentations of the Berlinale. Across the spectrum from feature films to documentary forms and artistic experiment.

The Berlinale Shorts competition presents up to 25 international and world premieres to a broad audience. Moderated film talks promote dialogue between cinema and society, art, and reality.

This year the festival will be held February 15 to 25.

While at Columbia, Lin studied Cinema and Television Directing. Prior to graduation, Lin noted that the most beneficial experience at Columbia was the school’s connection to the film industry.

“Columbia has set me up for success,” she said.
