Biography

Laura Sturm is on the Adjunct Faculty at Columbia in the Theatre Department where she teaches Acting and Movement for Actors. Laura has been a professional actor, director, teacher in the Chicago area (and recently in Milwaukee) for over 20 years. Laura has taught acting, voice and movement at Governors State University, North Central College and Oakton Community College, as well as at several professional studios in Chicago, including the Actors’ Center and Act One Studios for many years. Laura specializes in Meisner acting, movement (Williamson/Laban), period style and audition skills. Over the years, Laura has worked with such Chicago theaters as Organic, New Colony, Mary-Arrchie, Remy Bumppo, Victory Gardens, Boho, Stage Left, Northlight, Raven, Bailiwick and many others, in addition to a summer with the Texas Shakespeare Festival. She also serves as a private acting and movement coach, having worked with various actors and organizations over the years, including serving as Movement Director on an episode of Fox’s The Exorcist. Laura received her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MFA in Theatre Arts – Acting from Northern Illinois University.
