Robert Green Appointed Vice Provost for Digital Learning

Former CFO and AVP of Operations for Berklee College of Music's Berklee Online will oversee expansion of Columbia's online course offerings.

Robert Green has been named the first Vice Provost for Digital Learning at Columbia College Chicago, filling a newly created position to oversee the development of a full-scale, online education platform that will augment the college’s program offerings, as outlined in the Strategic Plan. Green will assume his role as vice provost on July 1.

“I am very excited to be joining Columbia College Chicago and its extremely dedicated staff and faculty during this period of expansion and growth,” says Green. “Columbia’s commitment to its students and its focus on providing a practical education in the arts—marrying passion with real-world tools—is crucial to the success of future generations.”

Green will be responsible for working with faculty and administrators to identify potential online courses and standardize online course best practices. Working with colleagues from across the college, Green will provide the vision, leadership and guidance necessary to expand, implement and strategically position Columbia’s burgeoning undergraduate and graduate online course offerings.

As detailed in the Strategic Plan, Green will spearhead the development of Columbia’s first online and low-residency professional master’s degree programs. Currently, the college aims to design at least three new professional master’s degrees to be available fully online over the next five years.

“I am delighted that Rob Green will be joining us. Rob has the expertise, the vision, the drive, and the interpersonal and managerial skills we need to build a robust digital learning program at Columbia College Chicago,” says Provost Stan Wearden.

Green comes to the college after 11 years with Berklee College of Music, where he was Assistant VP of Operations and Chief Financial Officer of Berklee Online. Green managed a significant portion of Berklee’s Finance, Student Support, Online Registration and Online Technical branches.

Green also brings faculty experience and third-party vendor knowledge to the college. He led the highly successful systems integration for Berklee, which made possible their first fully online Bachelor of Professional Studies degrees.

“Rob did exceptional work at Berklee College of Music in helping to build a highly successful online program that has become a national model of best practices for offering arts and performing arts courses in the digital environment,” Wearden adds. “I look forward to helping Rob quickly build the necessary relationships with schools and departments that are ready to move more fully into digital higher education.”
