Important Registration Announcement
November 10, 2022
Thank you for your patience as we have worked through the recent technical problems with our course registration system. Our IT team has worked the last two days to coordinate with the vendor and develop internal solutions to alleviate the performance issues and return our system to our desired level of functionality. In addition, the following updates and changes to the registration process are being announced to improve the responsiveness of the system:
- Registration will restart on Friday, and students will maintain the same registration priority previously established. Students with the largest number of earned credits plus in-progress credits will be eligible to register first.
- The new registration module that was launched in summer 2022 will not be active. The older module – which will be familiar to continuing students – includes all of the key functionality that allows students to browse and search course offerings and add, drop, and revise schedules, but with a different look and feel than what students used earlier this week.
- Only students with active registration times will be able to access the registration module. Previously, students who were not yet eligible to register could still access the search function and other elements, adding strain to the registration system.
- We will increase the number of registration windows throughout each day, in 90-minute increments, allowing smaller groups of students to begin to register in each window to avoid surges.
- You will receive an email message confirming your registration time today. This chart outlines the new registration windows; your individual message will state the specific time that the registration module will open for you to begin registering.
These times are start times; if your registration window opens during a class period or when you are otherwise engaged, the registration system will continue to be available to you after that start time, through the start of spring semester.
We believe that these improvements will reduce bottlenecks, optimize functionality, and provide a smooth registration process. We will be closely monitoring the relaunch and will solicit feedback from Friday's registrants to allow us to continue to adjust as necessary. In the short term, the college plans to implement more technology enhancements in time to further improve the registration experience for summer and fall. Longer term, an update to our student information system is a key element in our planning.
We know that this has been an added stressor at an already busy time of the semester, and we thank you for your flexibility in navigating these changes. Please engage with our advising staff to address any questions about your schedule and connect with Columbia Central for questions about registration holds.
