Live and Installed Sound (BA) '21

What would you say was the most surprising thing you learned at Columbia?

The most surprising thing I’ve learned at Columbia would have to be learning how to become a self-starter. Columbia has taught me to be tenacious and seek out the answers to the questions you have until you get an answer you’re satisfied with.

What experiences or courses at Columbia do you feel have been most beneficial?

I’d have to say all of the courses I’ve taken in the Audio Arts & Acoustics department. Columbia has a phenomenal staff who deeply understand audio and love sharing their same passion with students. Aside from getting to learn from an incredible collection of staff, completing jobs/internships during my time at Columbia have been great experiences as well.

What are your plans for after graduation?

As of right now I'll continue working for Chicago HiFi retailer Saturday Audio Exchange, and continue to work in live sound reinforcement, freelancing for companies around the Chicago area throughout the summer.

Do you have any advice for current students?

Stay curious! Ask questions till you can’t think of any, [and] stay open-minded, passionate, and positive no matter what. Surround yourself with people who are way better than you, and you will learn so much. Don’t be afraid to mess up in class/labs, even if it takes you a million times to understand something. Above all keep learning and keep smiling.

If you were going to sum up your experience at Columbia in one sentence, what would you say?

Columbia College Chicago was a phenomenal experience that has impacted my life in more ways that I can count, and the education, friends, and memories that I’ve made here will be something I’ll always hold dearly in my heart.
