Announcement

Starting October 1, you can complete your 2019-20 FAFSA at fafsa.gov.

Federal Work Study

Federal Work Study (FWS) is a federally funded program that provides part-time jobs to eligible undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students while in school.

FWS positions can be located either on-campus and off-campus and are available during the fall, spring, and summer terms. Students may work up to 20 hours per week when school is in session (25 hours during the summer term) and may not earn more than their scheduled award.

Criteria

To be considered for FWS, students must have:

How Funds are Awarded

Funds are limited. Students who are currently active in the FWS program will receive initial consideration when awarding these funds for the upcoming award year as long as the requirements have been met at the time of review. If remaining funds are available after the current FWS students have been awarded, new participants in the FWS program will be awarded FWS for the upcoming award year. Awarding will cease when funds are exhausted.

FWS is not a grant. It is a federally funded compensation program. Students that do not work will not receive the funds awarded to them and the award will be cancelled after a period of inactivity.

Summer FWS

Summer FWS is awarded to active FWS students who are planning on working between the end of the spring semester and June 30. FWS will be awarded until funds are exhausted.

Only students with a summer FWS award will be hired in a summer FWS position. Summer positions must be secured by the last day of the spring term or the award will be cancelled.

In order to work from the end of the Spring semester until June 30, students must:

  • Have a valid FAFSA on file for the upcoming year
  • Be registered for the fall semester
  • Completed verification/resolved Caution-Flag issues for the upcoming year
  • Have an EFC of $25,000 or below for the upcoming year
  • Have remaining need in the Cost of Attendance budget for the upcoming year

Only students with a summer FWS award will be hired in a summer FWS position. Summer positions must be secured by the last day of the spring term or the award will be cancelled.

The initial award will allow students to work until June 30, the end of the current award year. Recognizing that some summer positions extend past June 30, students are allowed to utilize eligibility from the upcoming award year to remain working in these positions until the end of the summer semester.

In order to continue working after June 30, students must:

•    Have a valid FAFSA on file for the upcoming year
•    Be registered for at least half-time hours for the fall semester
•    Completed verification/resolved Caution-Flag issues for the upcoming year
•    Have an EFC of $25,000 or below for the upcoming year
•    Have remaining need in the Cost of Attendance budget for the upcoming year

All of these steps must be completed by June 1 in order to be eligible to work past June 30. No exceptions will be made.
