Design an experience that fits you. The Fashion Studies Department offers four programs that offer you flexibility in learning both design and commerce. You can earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Business or Fashion Design, pursue the more immersive Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design, or add to a design-based curriculum with a Fashion Business Minor. Because fashion is a global and dynamic industry, we offer opportunities to study fashion in the field, nationally and internationally.

Gain the knowledge and skills you’ll need to launch your career by learning about the demands of the complex fashion industry. Students learn about digital design principles, textile and apparel identification and evaluation, trend research and forecasting, and sourcing practices. Those enrolled can choose a concentration in merchandising or product development. All students end their studies in a year-long capstone experience, in which they team with local producers to design, prototype, source, manufacture, bring to market, and actually sell their original apparel.
Fashion is a fast-moving global industry that requires an appreciation of constantly changing consumers and technology as well as industry foresight and creative problem solving. The Fashion Business BA is a 42-credit-hour major that grounds students in the corporate and entrepreneurial fashion industry, leaving them ample room to pursue interdisciplinary course options, including a minor or double major.
The 48-credit major provides training in fashion design and technical skill sets. The flexibility of the program affords opportunities for you to enhance your studies with a minor or a double major in Fashion Business, or explore interdisciplinary course options in photography, journalism, theatre and other areas of interest.
The Fashion Design BFA emphasizes technical proficiency informed by research-led design and in-depth creative exploration. The curriculum offers interlinked courses that include both traditional subject offerings and an ever-changing menu of contemporary workshops and modules. Students are encouraged to think critically in the design, realization and innovation of fashion while developing a personal design aesthetic. The senior year is an immersive experience during which students produce a capsule collection, from sketch to runway.
The Fashion Business Minor is an 18-credit-hour course of study that complements a wide range of majors with fashion connections. Course offerings in the minor provide flexibility to meet the needs of each student. The minor is ideal for students pursuing another major such as Cinema Art and Science, Design, Journalism, Photography, Theatre or interdisciplinary study.
