Associate Chair, AEMM
Supervisor, Leadership

Biography
As associate chair, Mary Filice oversees the AEMM department’s curricular initiatives, records, and program requirements. She works closely with the chairperson in the regular operation of the department and supervises the academic management team.

Mary is an advocate of both a cross- and trans-disciplinary approach to the arts and media, integrating her entrepreneurial, financial, and leadership expertise into her educational and artistic endeavors. As founder of MGF Consulting Ltd., Mary partners with senior executives on creative development, knowledge management, and operational/strategic positioning projects. Clients have included The August Jackson Company, Ariel Capital Management, Ideassociates LLC, Ameritech, Equity Office Properties, and Heartland Advisors.

An award-winning filmmaker, Mary’s work has aired on PBS, cable television, and been featured at U.S. and European film festivals. Involved with the initial development and launch of The Talking Pictures Festival, Mary continues as one of its organizers. She is on the board of Percolator Films, is on the membership committee of the Independent Feature Project (IFP), and is a sustaining member of the auxiliary board of the Juvenile Protective Association (JPA).

Mary has been a program evaluator for the Illinois Humanities Counsel; a judge for screenwriting competitions, film festival submissions, and the local Emmy awards competition; a reviewer for the Journal of International and Cross-Cultural studies; and a reviewer of a financial management textbook published by Addison-Wesley.

As a National CASTL Institute Scholar Mary’s research of media convergence, multitasking, and the millennial learner resulted in additional conference and faculty presentations. This initial research is the basis from which she continues to investigate transmedia practices and storytelling from an arts management perspective. She holds a B.A, in Theatre from Loyola University, and an M.A in Film/video from Columbia College Chicago.
