The Art History Council of Columbia College - is a college-recognized student organization with the purpose of forging links between Columbia students and the wider art and design community. The Council hosts and/or contributes to multiple events throughout the school year, ranging from informal get-togethers and museum visits to academic conferences and Manifest, all taking advantage of Chicago’s world-class art scene and creative industries to create a robust and sustained dialogue with current and future colleagues.

Students of Fine Art (SOFA) iis a student-run organization dedicated to creating community within, but not exclusive to, the Art + Design Department. SOFA works with the Fine Arts faculty to produce events such as the beginning and end of the academic year student faculty socials, exhibitions, lectures, and out of town student retreats.

IIDA Student Chapter is the student group of the International Interior Design Association. IIDA is one of the professional associations for interior designers, and is headquartered in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

The professional organization Industry Designers Society of America (IDSA) recognizes the Art + Design IDSA Student Chapter. The chapter promotes communication among students as well as between students and professionals in the field. The chapter organizes fundraising events, workshops, guest lectures, conference participation, etc. Students pay $50/year each to the national organization; students can join without paying dues but will not reap all the benefits of being a full member.

Students In Design is the student group of AIGA Chicago, which is a local chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design. If 20 or more students sign up at one time, an annual membership can be purchased for $50. A membership drive is held at the beginning of each semester. If applied for online, student memberships are $75.
